RESUMO

The Covid-19 pandemic has emphasized the role of educational management information systems (EMIS) for quality management (QM) in higher education, and set new directions for post-pandemic studies. Successful implementation of QM processes depends largely on managers' perceptions about quality and educational technology. However, higher education managers' profiles regarding these quality perceptions and their EMIS acceptance have been insufficiently investigated so far. In response to this research gap, we identified such profiles based on a quantitative survey of N = 70 managers from Chilean higher education institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic. A cluster analysis revealed three distinct manager types: "Elders" (oldest participants, almost equally distributed across positions, with least frequent EMIS access, moderate EMIS acceptance, and highest QM perceptions), "Mediators" (in operational and middle-management positions, with moderately frequent access to EMIS, and lowest EMIS acceptance and QM perceptions), and "Working Bees" (younger females in operational positions, with most frequent EMIS access, highest EMIS acceptance, and moderate QM perceptions). Knowledge of these profiles may enable customized training in the recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

RESUMO

This study compares attitudes toward teen relationship (or dating) violence (TRV) between early and late adolescents in the province of Concepción, Chile. The sample consisted of 770 adolescents, aged between 11 and 19 with an average age of 14.8 years old, of which 389 were female (50.5%) and 381 were male (49.5%). An adapted version of the Scale of Attitudes Towards Intimate Violence was used. Results found greater justifying attitudes toward violence in early adolescents than in late adolescents, in 6 of 12 items of the scale, with a statistical significance of p ≤ .001 in 4 items and in the overall score, and p ≤ .05 in 2 items. In the comparison according to sex, male adolescents tended to justify violence more than female adolescents did in one item (p ≤ .001). In dating/no dating comparison, statistically significant differences were found in just 2 items, in favor of those who are not in a relationship (p ≤ .05). These results are analyzed and discussed in relation to previous literature. Finally, orientations to future interventions are proposed, and it is suggested that aspects related to sampling and possible modulating variables such as cognitive development and moral development be considered for future investigations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aims of this study are (a) to assess the psychometric quality of an instrument of acceptance of new technologies adapted from the UTAUT model, (b) to validate the UTAUT model as a valid measure to be applied in dental education, and (c) to determine which factors of the UTAUT model predict the behavioural intention of using a haptic virtual simulator (HVS). METHODS: A cross-sectional design study with a sample of 265 dentistry students was carried out. RESULTS: Using structural equation modelling, confirmatory factor analysis verified the adequacy of four-factor model, although the only factor that directly predicts behavioural intention is performance expectancy. Internal consistency coefficients of each factor ranged from 0.800 to 0.969. DISCUSSION: These findings, as well as the predictive power of performance expectancy on behaviour intention, are in line with previous evidence found in the literature. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that the UTAUT scale has adequate reliability and construct factorial validity; therefore, UTAUT model could be a valuable approach to assess haptic virtual simulator acceptance in dental education.

Background: Intimate partner violence is a serious public health problem, with a prevalence reaches 49% for psychological violence and 13% physical violence. Aim: To compare the levels of aggression between a sample of men referred for domestic violence therapy (n = 34) and a nonclinical sample (N = 40), assessed by the Chilean version ofthe AQ scale. Method: Comparative analytical observational cross-sectional study Results: Statistically significant differences in favor of the group of perpetrators was found, in overall AQ scores (p = 0.013), physical aggression subscale (p = 0.005), anger subscale (p = 0.005) and hostility subscale (p = 0.000). No statistically significant differences were found in verbal aggression subscale (p = 0.705), despite being the clinical group scores higher than the control group. Conclusions: Results are partially consistent with findings from previous research. Results are discussed from an empirical and sociological perspective.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The Buss and Perry Aggression Questionnaire (AQ) evaluates aggressive behaviours and is used to assess manifestations of aggression. METHODS: At different points in time, 346 Chilean university students participated in the validation of the instrument, whose convergent validity was shown in relation to the scales of Psychological Aggression and Physical Aggression of the Conflict Tactics Scale 2 (CTS- 2), and the Salvo Impulsivity Scale. Discriminant validity was found when comparing the scores obtained from a group of students categorized as "Violent" with those of a control group, after a screening test. RESULTS: The AQ scale has appropriate psychometric properties in terms of internal consistency, test-retest reliability, convergent validity and discriminant validity. Four principal factors were obtained in the confirmatory factor analysis. CONCLUSIONS: The AQ can be used in Chile to assess aggressive behaviours. Challenges for future research are discussed.
