RESUMO

Introduction Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) present with a multitude of symptoms that can range from headaches to shoulder pain. Patients frequently present with pain in the ear, dizziness, and vertigo. It is noted that some patients who report TMDs also have a history of sleep disturbances, which is noted in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) as a reduction in the oropharyngeal airway volume. Objective To evaluate the airway volume in pre- and posttreatment of TMD with the use of neuromuscular orthotics made with ultra-low frequency transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (ULF-TENS). Methods A total of 15 patients were evaluated for TMDs using the related criteria. Those included were treated with ULF-TENS with evaluation of the airway volume both pre- and posttreatment using CBCT and the Dolphin 3D volume analysis software. Results While the symptoms were shown to be significantly reduced in patients who were treated with this particular modality, the airway volume varied in those who reported a reduction after a period of 3 months and those that reported after a period of 6 months. Conclusion Posttreatment evaluation of the airway should be done after a period of 6 months for a more objective evaluation. A multidisciplinary evaluation of the patient is required in such cases.

RESUMO

The present study was conducted to characterize the native plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs) from the pulse rhizosphere of the Bundelkhand region of India. Twenty-four bacterial isolates belonging to nineteen species (B. amyloliquefaciens, B. subtilis, B. tequilensis, B. safensis, B. haynesii, E. soli, E. cloacae, A. calcoaceticus, B. valezensis, S. macrescens, P. aeruginosa, P. fluorescens, P. guariconensis, B. megaterium, C. lapagei, P. putida, K. aerogenes, B. cereus, and B. altitudinis) were categorized and evaluated for their plant growth-promoting potential, antifungal properties, and enzymatic activities to identify the most potential strain for commercialization and wider application in pulse crops. Phylogenetic identification was done on the basis of 16 s rRNA analysis. Among the 24 isolates, 12 bacterial strains were gram positive, and 12 were gram negative. Among the tested 24 isolates, IIPRAJCP-6 (Bacillus amyloliquefaciens), IIPRDSCP-1 (Bacillus subtilis), IIPRDSCP-10 (Bacillus tequilensis), IIPRRLUCP-5 (Bacillus safensis), IIPRCDCP-2 (Bacillus subtilis), IIPRAMCP-1 (Bacillus safensis), IIPRMKCP-10 (Bacillus haynesii), IIPRANPP-3 (Bacillus amyloliquefaciens), IIPRKAPP-5 (Enterobacter soli), IIPRAJCP-2 (Enterobacter cloacae), IIPRDSCP-11 (Acinetobacter calcoaceticus), IIPRDSCP-9 (Bacillus valezensis), IIPRMKCP-3 (Seratia macrescens), IIPRMKCP-1 (Pseudomonas aeruginosa), IIPRCKPP-3 (Pseudomonas fluorescens), IIPRMKCP-9 (Pseudomonas guariconensis), IIPRMKCP-8 (Bacillus megatirium), IIPRMWCP-9 (Cedecea lapagei), IIPRKUCP-10 (Pseudomonas putida), IIPRAMCP-4 (Klebsiella aerogenes), IIPRCKPP-7 (Enterobacter cloacae), IIPRAMCP-5 (Bacillus cereus), IIPRSHEP-6 (Bacillus subtilis), IIPRRSBa89 (Bacillus altitudinis) bacterial isolates, IIPRMKCP-9, IIPRAJCP-6, IIPRMKCP-10, IIPRAMCP-5, IIPRSHEP-6, and IIPRMKCP-3 showed the maximum antagonistic activity against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris (FOC), Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lentis (FOL), and Fusarium udum (FU) causing wilt disease of chickpea, lentil, and pigeonpea, respectively, and maximum plant growth-promoting enzyme (phosphatase), plant growth hormone (IAA), and siderophore production show promising results under greenhouse conditions. This study is the first report of bacterial diversity in the pulse-growing region of India.

RESUMO

A cubane-like tetranuclear hydrosulfido complex of Cu(I), [Cu4(SH)4(PPh3)4] (1), has been synthesized by the reaction of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O, NaSCOPh, and Cu(PPh3)2NO3 and characterized structurally. Complex 1 represents the first example of crystallographically characterized µ3-SH-bridged cubanoid hydrosulfide. By direct reactions of [(PPh3)2Cu(NO3)] and NaSH, neutral hydrosulfide complexes [Cu(SH)(PPh3)2]·C6H6 (2), [Cu2(SH)2(PPh3)3] (3), and [Cu2(SH)2(PPh3)4] (4) have also been synthesized and structurally characterized. Complex 2 is monomeric with a terminal hydrosulfide ligand. The other two, 3 and 4, are µ2-SH-bridged unsymmetrical and symmetrical dinuclear complexes, respectively. In the symmetric one (4), both Cu(I) ions are tetrahedrally coordinated while in the unsymmetric one (3), one Cu(I) ion is tetrahedral and the other one has a trigonal-planar coordination geometry. The catalytic activity of a hydrosulfido complex in a "click" azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction has been explored for the first time, and complex 1 is found to be an efficient catalyst for the regioselective synthesis of glycoconjugate triazoles.

RESUMO

As sessile organisms, plants have evolved mechanisms to adapt to variable and rapidly fluctuating environmental conditions. Calcium (Ca2+) in plant cells is a versatile intracellular second messenger that is essential for stimulating short- and long-term responses to environmental stresses through changes in its concentration in the cytosol ([Ca2+]cyt). Increases in [Ca2+]cyt direct the strength and length of these stimuli. In order to terminate them, the cells must then remove the cytosolic Ca2+ against a concentration gradient, either taking it away from the cell or storing it in organelles such as the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and/or vacuoles. Here, we review current knowledge about the biological roles of plant P-type Ca2+-ATPases as potential actors in the regulation of this cytosolic Ca2+ efflux, with a focus the IIA ER-type Ca2+-ATPases (ECAs) and the IIB autoinhibited Ca2+-ATPases (ACAs). While ECAs are analogous proteins to animal sarcoplasmic-endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPases (SERCAs), ACAs are equivalent to animal plasma membrane-type ATPases (PMCAs). We examine their expression patterns in cells exhibiting polar growth and consider their appearance during the evolution of the plant lineage. Full details of the functions and coordination of ECAs and ACAs during plant growth and development have not yet been elucidated. Our current understanding of the regulation of fluctuations in Ca2+ gradients in the cytoplasm and organelles during growth is in its infancy, but recent technological advances in Ca2+ imaging are expected to shed light on this subject.

RESUMO

Twenty four bacterial strains from four different regions of mud volcano and lime cave were isolated to estimate their diversity, plant growth promoting and biocontrol activities to use them as inoculant strains in the fields. An excellent antagonistic effect against four plant pathogens and plant growth promoting properties such as IAA production, HCN production, phosphate solubilization, siderophore production, starch hydrolysis and hydrolytic enzymes syntheses were identified in OM5 (Pantoea agglomerans) and EM9 (Exiguobacterium sp.) of 24 studied isolates. Seeds (Chili and tomato) inoculation with plant growth promoting strains resulted in increased percentage of seedling emergence, root length and plant weight. Results indicated that co-inoculation gave a more pronounced effects on seedling emergence, secondary root numbers, primary root length and stem length, while inoculation by alone isolate showed a lower effect. Our results suggest that the mixed inocula of OM5 and EM9 strains as biofertilizers could significantly increase the production of food crops in Andaman archipelago by means of sustainable and organic agricultural system.

RESUMO

Standardization of the diagnostic routine for children with congenital heart disease associatedwith pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH-CHD) is crucial, in particular since inappropriate assignmentto repair of the cardiac lesions (e.g., surgical repair in patients with elevated pulmonary vascular resistance)may be detrimental and associated with poor outcomes. Thus, members of the Congenital HeartDisease and Pediatric Task Forces of the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute decided to conduct asurvey aimed at collecting expert opinion from different institutions in several countries, covering manyaspects of the management of PAH-CHD, from clinical recognition to noninvasive and invasive diagnosticprocedures and immediate postoperative support. In privileged communities, the vast majority of childrenwith congenital cardiac shunts are now treated early in life, on the basis of noninvasive diagnostic evaluation, and have an uneventful postoperative course, with no residual PAH. However, a small percentageof patients (older at presentation, with extracardiac syndromes or absence of clinical features of increasedpulmonary blood flow, thus suggesting elevated pulmonary vascular resistance) remain at a higher risk ofcomplications and unfavorable outcomes. These patients need a more sophisticated diagnostic approach, including invasive procedures. The authors emphasize that decision making regarding operability is basednot only on cardiac catheterization data but also on the complete diagnostic picture, which includes theclinical history, physical examination, and all aspects of noninvasive evaluation.
