RESUMO

The case of 20-years female patient with the diagnosis of sarcoidosis associated to fibrolamellar carcinoma of the liver is presented. Clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of these entities are exposed. The criteria of several researchers about the relation between sarcoidosis and neoplasic diseases are stood out. Sarcoidosis associated to fibrolamellar hepatocarcinoma is very uncommon.

RESUMO

A prospective descriptive observational study was made to determine the incidence of esophageal foreign bodies in adults who had been admitted to the Manual Ascunce Domenech teaching hospital of Camaguey, Cuba in the period from 1 September 1997 to 31 August 1998. The highest frequency of patients with this diagnosis was in 31 to 50 year-old men. Dysphagia and salivary retention in the pyriform sinuses were the prevalent symptoms. The state of the oral cavity was poor in 82.50% of patients. The foreign body was removed in the first 24 hours in 83.33% of patients. The radiological diagnosis was positive in 75% of patients. The upper third was the most common location in radiological and endoscopic studies. Fish bones were the prevalent foreign body. A quarter of the patients had complications and stable esophagoscopy was used to extract the foreign body in 96.67% of cases.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: A 49-year-old male with primary lymphoma of the prostate is described. The clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects are discussed. METHODS/RESULTS: The diagnostic yield of ultrasound in this condition is evaluated and the possible site for US-guided biopsy is defined. A significant correlation was found between a positive biopsy and the area of the prostate identified sonographically. There were no recurrence or other manifestations after treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical features are corroborated by the sonographic findings and US-guided biopsy has been demonstrated to be more precise.

RESUMO

We present a case of a 57 years old male diagnosed of neck fibrosarcoma. The main characteristics in this type of tumors, the importance of performing CT scan and histopathological studies in the diagnosis and treatment are emphasized. We conclude that this disease, though rare, must be taken into consideration in order to achieve a better prognosis in these patients.

RESUMO

A recent study of cancer of the larynx made at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Hospital in Camagüey, Cuba, from 1985 to 1992 is presented. In this period 168 patients were diagnosed as having this illness. Male patients of 51-70 years age were predominant and smoking was an important factor in 76% of all patients and alcohol consumption in 20.2% of patients. The most common site was the glotis (39.2%) and the epidermoid variety was the most frequent type (95.5%). The tumors classified as T1a No Mo were the most representative of the group (32.1%). We encountered metastasis in only 11.3% of our patients. The terapeutic regimen used was radiotherapy.

RESUMO

Herein we describe a 37-year-old patient diagnosed as having Hodgkin's disease of penis. To our knowledge, the present case is the youngest reported in the literature. The disease equally affected the body, prepuce and balanopreputial groove and was in stage I E at the time of diagnosis. Treatment was by radiotherapy, which left no trace of the disease. Four years thereafter the patient is disease-free. The cases previously reported are briefly reviewed and the results are compared.

RESUMO

We studied cancer of the larynx in women seen at our hospital from 1985 to 1992. The incidence was 15.4%, a figure exceeding that usually reported in the bibliography. It was predominant between 51 and 70 years. The tumors had diverse clinical stages, stage I being predominant with the exception of glottic-supraglottic tumors. The most frequent treatment was radiotherapy, followed by total laryngectomy.

RESUMO

The case in discussion is that of a 38-year-old patient with a history of artralgia, anemia and a general syndrome. The physical examination revealed a tumor in the right hypochondrium and the right flank and she was admitted to the hospital due to the rapid growth of the tumor. On operating we found a horseshoe kidney and a hypernephroma in the isthmus of the kidney. Emphasis is made in performing a detailed radiological study in order to determine the best possible surgical approach.
