RESUMO
Discusses the incidence etiology and pathology of vasomotor rhinitis and the etiological factors, with special reference to Suriname. Describes histopathological changes, medical and surgical treatment. Personal observations have been recorded. This study was done at the Academic and the St.Vincentius Hospital in Paramaribo, because vasomotor rhinitis seems to be common in Suriname. Chronic vasomotor rhinitis is observed in the rainy season and East-indians seem to have a higher incidence than Negroes and Amerindians. Some patients fail to get permanent benefit from medical treatment, so vidian neurectomy is indicated. Due to vascular changes from this operation, there may be a slight fall in intranasal temperature. Histopathological studies proved that unilateral vidian neurectomy does produce bilateral changes in the nasal mucosa. Patients with nasal obstruction as leading symptom, do respond to vidian neurectomy
