RESUMO
O Pinguim de Magalhães (Spheniscus magellanicus) é uma ave característica da América do Sul ede águas temperadas. Está, atualmente, na lista de animais quase ameaçados de extinção da UniãoInternacional para a Conservação da Natureza e dos Recursos Naturais, devido a fatores associadosao aquecimento global. Os pingüins desviam seu trajeto natural à procura de alimento, caindo assim,em correntes marítimas que os trazem até o norte da America Latina, onde chegam debilitados. Opresente artigo descreve a histoarquitetura da língua desta espécie, levando em consideração aspectosmorfofuncionais do tecido e a serventia deste estudo para a identificação de processos patológicos quepossam acometer este órgão.(AU)
The Magellanic Penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus) is a characteristic bird of South America and temperatewaters. Currently, this species is in the International Union for Conservation of Nature and NaturalResources list, as almost extinct animal, due to factors associated with global warming. Penguinsdivert its natural path in search of food, thus falling in the ocean currents that bring them to the northof Latin America, where they arrive weakened. This article describes the morphological aspect of thetongue of the species in question, taking into account morphofunctional aspects and the usefulness ofthis study to identify pathologicals processes that may affect this organ.(AU)
