Dra, Zimmer describes in this work the evolution of general anaesthesia for surgeries, quoting the recorded invention patents, since the 1st one performed in France - an ether anaesthesia - in 1846, 2 years after Wells had used nitrous oxide as gas for a surgery (december 1844).

Dr. Leonard Menczer developped during nine years a world-wide campaign to obtain from his country's Post Service the emission of a commemorative stamp honoring Horacio Wells, in occasion to remember the 150 anniversary of the first application for a tooth extraction of anesthesy by means of gases. This brave and noble attitude in order to regain Wells' merits, serves us as an example of perseverance, conviction and deep love for the taken cause. Respect and admiration by this colleagues because the results of this attitude. In this article he summarizes his position and defends in an indisputable way Wells and his right having been the first in using anesthesy by means of gases.
