RESUMO

SpliceProt 2.0 is a public proteogenomics database that aims to list the sequence of known proteins and potential new proteoforms in human, mouse, and rat proteomes. This updated repository provides an even broader range of computationally translated proteins and serves, for example, to aid with proteomic validation of splice variants absent from the reference UniProtKB/SwissProt database. We demonstrate the value of SpliceProt 2.0 to predict orthologous proteins between humans and murines based on transcript reconstruction, sequence annotation and detection at the transcriptome and proteome levels. In this release, the annotation data used in the reconstruction of transcripts based on the methodology of ternary matrices were acquired from new databases such as Ensembl, UniProt, and APPRIS. Another innovation implemented in the pipeline is the exclusion of transcripts predicted to be susceptible to degradation through the NMD pathway. Taken together, our repository and its applications represent a valuable resource for the proteogenomics community.

RESUMO

The use of ChatGPT as a tool for writing and knowledge integration raises concerns about the potential for its use to replace critical thinking and academic writing skills. While ChatGPT can assist in generating text and suggesting appropriate language, it should not replace the human responsibility for creating innovative knowledge through experiential learning. The accuracy and quality of information provided by ChatGPT also require caution, as previous studies have reported inaccuracies in references used by chatbots. ChatGPT acknowledges certain limitations, including the potential for generating erroneous or biased content, and it is essential to exercise caution in interpreting its responses and recognize the indispensable role of human experience in the processes of information retrieval and knowledge creation. Furthermore, the challenge of distinguishing between papers written by humans or AI highlights the need for thorough review processes to prevent the spread of articles that could lead to the loss of confidence in the accuracy and integrity of scientific research. Overall, while the use of ChatGPT can be helpful, it is crucial to raise awareness of the potential issues associated with the use of ChatGPT, as well as to discuss boundaries so that AI can be used without compromising the quality of scientific articles and the integrity of evidence-based knowledge.

RESUMO

Decision Support Systems (DSSs) are solutions that serve decision-makers in their decision-making process. For the development of these intelligent systems, two primary components are needed: the knowledge database and the knowledge rule base. The objective of this research work was to implement and validate diverse clinical decision support systems supported by Mamdani-type fuzzy set theory using clustering and dynamic tables. The outcomes were evaluated with other works obtained from the literature to validate the suggested fuzzy systems for categorizing the Wisconsin breast cancer dataset. The fuzzy Inference Systems worked with different input features, according to the studies obtained from the literature. The outcomes confirm that most performance' metrics in several cases were greater than the achieved results from the literature for the output variable for the different Fuzzy Inference Systems-FIS, demonstrating superior precision.

Abstract The papers goal is to assess the already implemented information and knowledge managers at InSTEC. This allows improving the managers future work, and serves as a preliminary study for including others in the future. Documentary analysis and heuristics evaluation methods are the theoretical basis; meanwhile, automatic tools Nibbler, GooglePageRank, SEOptimer, Website Grader, interviews and polls to users evidenced the actual development of both sites. The studys outcomes revealed the quality of InSTECs external website and its intranet achieved 69,4 % of general competency. These sites indicators must be enhanced to provide a better service to users in the information and knowledge management so needed in universities.

RESUMO

Handover Management (HM) is pivotal for providing service continuity, enormous reliability and extreme-low latency, and meeting sky-high data rates, in wireless communications. Current HM approaches based on a single criterion may lead to unnecessary and frequent handovers due to a partial network view that is constrained to information about link quality. In turn, HM approaches based on multicriteria may present a failure of handovers and wrong network selection, decreasing the throughput and increasing the packet loss in the network. This paper proposes SIM-Know, an approach for improving HM. SIM-Know improves HM by including a Semantic Information Model (SIM) that enables context-aware and multicriteria handover decisions. SIM-Know also introduces a SIM-based distributed Knowledge Base Profile (KBP) that provides local and global intelligence to make contextual and proactive handover decisions. We evaluated SIM-Know in an emulated wireless network. When the end-user device moves at low and moderate speeds, the results show that our approach outperforms the Signal Strong First (SSF, single criterion approach) and behaves similarly to the Analytic Hierarchy Process combined with the Technique for Order Preferences by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (AHP-TOPSIS, multicriteria approach) regarding the number of handovers and the number of throughput drops. SSF outperforms SIM-Know and AHP-TOPSIS regarding the handover latency metric because SSF runs a straightforward process for making handover decisions. At high speeds, SIM-Know outperforms SSF and AHP-TOPSIS regarding the number of handovers and the number of throughput drops and, further, improves the throughput, delay, jitter, and packet loss in the network. Considering the obtained results, we conclude that SIM-Know is a practical and attractive solution for cognitive HM.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans is a facultative anaerobe that depends on ferrous ion oxidation as well as reduced sulfur oxidation to obtain energy and is widely applied in metallurgy, environmental protection, and soil remediation. With the accumulation of experimental data, metabolic mechanisms, kinetic models, and several databases have been established. However, scattered data are not conducive to understanding A. ferrooxidans that necessitates updated information informed by systems biology. RESULTS: Here, we constructed a knowledgebase of iron metabolism of A. ferrooxidans (KIMAf) system by integrating public databases and reviewing the literature, including the database of bioleaching substrates (DBS), the database of bioleaching metallic ion-related proteins (MIRP), the A. ferrooxidans bioinformation database (Af-info), and the database for dynamics model of bioleaching (DDMB). The DBS and MIRP incorporate common bioleaching substrates and metal ion-related proteins. Af-info and DDMB integrate nucleotide, gene, protein, and kinetic model information. Statistical analysis was performed to elucidate the distribution of isolated A. ferrooxidans strains, evolutionary and metabolic advances, and the development of bioleaching models. CONCLUSIONS: This comprehensive system provides researchers with a platform of available iron metabolism-related resources of A. ferrooxidans and facilitates its application.

Abstract The identity of the library teacher in the context of the Knowledge Society is configured through new senses, given the development of Information and Communication Technologies. In this context, it is necessary to reconstruct the work of his trade, facing the multiple digital scenarios, the forms of search, selection and socialization of information, from the use of the internet. This analysis is articulated to the approaches of the field of Educational Technology, from where the teaching and learning processes and the transmission of culture mediated by technologies are understood, fundamentally in educational contexts, in which libraries are also involved. In this sense, cultural transformations not only resignify school spaces, but also the practices of literacy and pedagogical function of the library science professional.

RESUMO

Citrus canker type A is a serious disease caused by Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (X. citri), which is responsible for severe losses to growers and to the citrus industry worldwide. To date, no canker-resistant citrus genotypes are available, and there is limited information regarding the molecular and genetic mechanisms involved in the early stages of the citrus canker development. Here, we present the CitrusKB knowledge base. This is the first in vivo interactome database for different citrus cultivars, and it was produced to provide a valuable resource of information on citrus and their interaction with the citrus canker bacterium X. citri. CitrusKB provides tools for a user-friendly web interface to let users search and analyse a large amount of information regarding eight citrus cultivars with distinct levels of susceptibility to the disease, with controls and infected plants at different stages of infection by the citrus canker bacterium X. citri. Currently, CitrusKB comprises a reference citrus genome and its transcriptome, expressed transcripts, pseudogenes and predicted genomic variations (SNPs and SSRs). The updating process will continue over time by the incorporation of novel annotations and analysis tools. We expect that CitrusKB may substantially contribute to the field of citrus genomics. CitrusKB is accessible at http://bioinfo.deinfo.uepg.br/citrus. Users can download all the generated raw sequences and generated datasets by this study from the CitrusKB website.

RESUMO

Dengue, Zika, and chikungunya are epidemic diseases transmitted by the Aedes mosquito. These virus infections can be so severe to the point of bringing on mobility and neurological problems, or even death. Expert systems (ES) can be used as tools for the identification of patterns intended to solve problems in the same way as a professional specialist would. This work aimed to develop an ES in the form of an Android application to serve as a supportive tool in the diagnosis of these arboviruses. The goal is to associate the set of symptoms from a patient to a score related to the likelihood of them having these diseases. To make this possible, we implemented a rule-based ES which considers the presence of symptoms itself and the relation between them to associate the case under analysis to others found in the literature. We performed 96 tests (32 for each illness), and our system had a success rate of 96.88%. Resident physicians of a public hospital also analyzed these clinical cases and achieved an average success rate of 72.92%. Comparing the results of the method proposed and errors made by health professionals, we showed an improvement in the effectiveness of clinical diagnoses. Graphical abstract Figure - DZC DIAG Operating Flowchart: the physicians record patients' data and answer a series of questions related to the patient's symptoms; after all the questions, the result is generated by the expert system (score for dengue, Zika, and chikungunya); and it is saved in the same device where the test was done and uploaded online to a FTP.
