OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects of vaginal erbium laser treatment on the vaginal health and sexual function of postmenopausal women with a history of breast cancer. METHODS: An open, prospective, therapeutic intervention study was conducted with 24 postmenopausal women with a history of breast cancer and vaginal dryness, and/or dyspareunia, who had not used vaginal hormone therapy for at least 6 months. The women were treated using a 2,940-nm Erbium: YAG laser (Etherea-MX, Athena, São Carlos, São Paulo, Brazil), with 90 and 360 scanning scopes, between August, 2017 and October, 2017 in a private clinic in a city of southeastern Brazil. Vaginal erbium laser treatment was performed at three sessions with a 30-day interval between each session. Sexual function was assessed before and 1 month after treatment using the Short Personal Experiences Questionnaire. Questions related to genitourinary symptoms were also applied. Vaginal health was assessed before each laser session using the Vaginal Health Index Score. RESULTS: Mean age was 53.7 years. Vaginal health improved, as shown by an increased overall score (Pâ<â0.001). The effect size was large between pretreatment and post-treatment scores for vaginal elasticity, fluid volume, epithelial integrity, and moisture. The effect size was also significant for the overall sexual function score and for the score in the dyspareunia domain between pretreatment and 1 month after the final treatment session. CONCLUSION: Vaginal erbium laser may represent a novel therapeutic option for improving vaginal health and sexual function in postmenopausal women with a history of breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Labiaplasty is one of the aesthetic procedures that has shown the greatest increase in the number of operations in recent years, although the absolute number of these procedures is still very low. Labia minora hypertrophy causes not only functional discomfort and sexual difficulties, but also embarrassment and aesthetic concern. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of labiaplasty on the patient's quality of life, self-esteem, and sexual function. METHODS: Twenty-four consecutive sexually active patients, who expressed the desire to undergo labiaplasty, were divided into two groups of 12 patients each: the intervention group that underwent labiaplasty immediately after responding the first questionnaires, and the control group that received no intervention during the study period. All patients were assessed for health-related quality of life, self-esteem, and sexual function using the Brazilian Portuguese versions of the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey, the Brazilian version of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem scale, and the Female Sexual Function Questionnaire, respectively. The questionnaires were administered at inclusion and at 3 and 6 months later in both groups. Comparisons within and between groups were performed. Statistical analysis was performed at a significance level of p < 0.05. RESULTS: No significant differences in Rosenberg Self-Esteem scale or Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey score were found in either group during the study period. However, a significant improvement was found in the Female Sexual Function Questionnaire total score in the pain and enjoyment domains. CONCLUSION: Labiaplasty had a positive impact on sexual functioning of the study population.

Relatamos caso raro de crises parciais complexas com automatismos genitais secundárias a tumor temporal. Paciente foi submetida à lobectomia temporal direita com remissão completa dos sintomas. Após revisão da literatura, fica evidenciado que crises podem ser originadas tanto no lobo frontal quanto temporal.
We report a rare case of sexual automatism in complex partial seizures secondary to temporal tumor. Patient underwent a right temporal lobectomy with complete remission of symptoms. After reviewing the literature, it is evident that the crisis can arise in both the frontal and temporal.

CONTEXT Penis size is a great concern for men in many cultures. Despite the great variety of methods for penile augmentation, none has gained unanimous acceptance among experts in the field. However, in this era of minimally invasive procedure, injection therapy for penile augmentation has become more popular. Here we report a case of methacrylate injection in the penis that evolved with penile deformity and sexual dysfunction. This work also reviews the investigation and management of this pathological condition. CASE REPORT A 36-year-old male sought medical care with a complaint of penile deformity and sexual dysfunction after methacrylate injection. The treatment administered was surgical removal. Satisfactory cosmetic and functional results were reached after two months. CONCLUSIONS There is a need for better structured scientific research to evaluate the outcomes and complication rates from all penile augmentation procedures.

O tamanho peniano é uma grande preocupação para homens em diversas culturas. Apesar da grande variedade de possíveis métodos para o aumento peniano, nenhum ganhou aceitação unânime por especialistas no assunto. Mas na era dos procedimentos minimamente invasivos, a terapia de injeção para aumento peniano tem se tornado mais popular. Aqui relatamos um caso de injeção de metacrilato no pênis que evoluiu com deformidade peniana e disfunção sexual. Este trabalho também revisa a investigação e gerenciamento desta afecção. Um homem de 36 anos procurou atendimento médico com queixa de deformidade peniana e disfunção sexual após injeção de metacrilato. Remoção cirúrgica foi realizada como tratamento. Após dois meses, satisfatórios resultados cosmético e funcional foram alcançados. Trabalhos científicos mais bem estruturados para avaliar as taxas de complicação e resultados de todos os procedimentos para aumento peniano são necessários.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the surgical feasibility and the long-term anatomical and functional results of the technique of vaginal reconstruction using peritoneum from the pouch of Douglas in patients with uterovaginal agenesis, known as Rokitansky's syndrome. DESIGN: Retrospective single-institution case series. SETTING: A tertiary referral center for the treatment of female genital malformations. PATIENT(S): Forty-eight patients with vaginal agenesis. INTERVENTION(S): Laparotomy and use of pelvic peritoneum to form a neovagina. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Anatomical success was defined as a neovagina > or =8 cm in length that easily permitted the insertion of two fingers 6 months after corrective surgery. Functional success was considered to have been achieved when the patient reported satisfactory sexual intercourse beginning 6 months after surgery. RESULT(S): The surgical procedure was carried out uneventfully, and anatomical success was achieved in 100% of cases. Functional success was also achieved in the entire population studied. CONCLUSION(S): The construction of a neovagina using pelvic peritoneum is simple, safe, and effective in patients with Rokitansky syndrome.
